Lou Dobbs Interview on The Daily Show

Mark

Well here I am still in the single digit posts and I’m already breaking one of the rules I set for my blog.  I was not going to talk about religion, politics, and marsupials.  Here I go writting a whole post on the wombat*.

I just watched the whole extended Lou Dobbs interview from the Daily Show, and I have to say it is one of the most reasonable discussions between two men who have differing views that I have ever seen.  I strongly encourage everyone to watch the three clips I’ve embedded.  I believe if we’re lucky as a country we will finally stop being polarized.  George Washington in his farewell address cautioned against a party system I have to say he had the right idea…

Elmhurst Fountain

Mark

In downtown Elmhurst IL they have been working on a fountain off of York.  You’d swear it was a city of Chicago project for how long it felt like it took to complete. I don’t think I ever got to see it with water this year. I’m glad to see a city putting a “winterscape” in so the plaza can have something instead just a big empty fountain during the winter months.

Schmap Guide Photo Inclusion

Mark

I was notified this morning that one of my photographs I took during a walk around Chicago has been selected for inclusion in the 2009 Schmap Guide to Chicago.

You can see how the image was used at Webbrowser URL or from the IPhone/IPod Touch URL.  It’s a great feeling to know that something I do simply as a hobby is appreciated enough by others that they would do something such as include my photos in some small part for a guide of Chicago.

Here is the image they selected embeded from my Flickr account.

A Fish (Store) of a Different Color

Mark

Today, I purchased a Venustus Cichlid for a secondary tank I’ve had dormant since I set up my angel tank. While I’m sure I’ll post more about the Venustus later that’s not my goal for this post. What made me enjoy this more was that I found a locally owned fish store to buy from.  I went to Tropi-Quatics in Lombard IL. It’s set back on Main St. in the old business district of Lombard instead of down towards the south end of town near the major strip malls. As soon as I walked in I was reminded of being back in college where we had the benefit of another great “Mom & Pop” fish store Marine Aquatics down in Normal IL.  Continue reading

Now Lowering the Fees on Things That Used to be Free

Mark

Katie brought this one to my attention.
Bank of America Limits Overdraft Fees

First of all I want to say I appreciate a major bank taking this step towards not squeezing their customers for every penny they have.  To quote their website (above link).

  • Not charge Overdraft item fees when a customer’s account is overdrawn by a total amount less than $10 for one day
  • Not charge overdraft fees on more than four items per day
  • Improve the process for customers to opt out of overdraft capability
  • Offer customers a Clarity Commitment(® )that spells out in clear, unambiguous terms what customers can expect from their deposit relationship with Bank of America

When Twitter isn’t enough :)

Mark

I tried hosting a blog back when WordPress was still new and before every webellectual had gotten their local tech geek to set up a blog for them.  If I remember correctly I think I got all of three posts made.  They went from witty to sarcastic to down right snarky.  I’m going to try and be better this time around, granted by the header you can tell I’m not expecting to stay far and clear of down right snarky.
