I just finished reading The Hawk and the Dove by Nicholas Thompson. It’s an account of the lives of George Kennan and Paul Nitze, who were two of the key figures for the American’s during the Cold War. Kennan developed the fundamental theory of Containment (The Long Telegram/The X Article) and Nitze was involved with the militarization and arms build up that defined the Cold War (NSC-68).
The book is written in a great style that tells these gentlemens’ story without feeling like a drawn out history text book. I highly recommend it for anyone who has an interest in the Cold War.

Well here I am still in the single digit posts and I’m already breaking one of the rules I set for my blog. I was not going to talk about religion, politics, and marsupials. Here I go writting a whole post on the wombat*.
I just watched the whole extended Lou Dobbs interview from the Daily Show, and I have to say it is one of the most reasonable discussions between two men who have differing views that I have ever seen. I strongly encourage everyone to watch the three clips I’ve embedded. I believe if we’re lucky as a country we will finally stop being polarized. George Washington in his farewell address cautioned against a party system I have to say he had the right idea…

*I know there’s nothing in this post about wombats, I lied.
